Childhood is a place: with terrain, with landmarks, with weather. To journey in this realm, it is helpful to have a map.

Wait, there’s a map?

I was training to be a homebirth midwife when my first child was born, so I thought I knew what I was getting myself into. Nope. Suddenly I felt like I was freeclimbing on a sheer rock with no idea what was coming next.

Trusting my child, trusting myself, trusting my experience led me to Waldorf education and its view of child development. Learning about this way of viewing childhood as a journey was like lighting up a dark path.

Now after raising three children and serving as a class teacher to many more, I have experienced how helpful this “map” can be when navigating the terrain of childhood. Though classes and personal consulting sessions, I help families orient themselves in the arc of the childhood journey, understand where they are so they can enjoy the present, and prepare for upcoming changes in the landscape.
